There is a reason we use the phrase “that rings a bell” to denote something familiar, something that “sounds” right, because when something “rings a bell” it connects to the intrinsic knowing inside that we all share, the common denominator of what is true…a longing for liberty, for freedom:
- Not what “feels” good
- Not what we wish would be
- Not what we hope to be true
…but what really is
- It’s a resonance…an embodiment we’ve forgotten how to access. It takes practice, a learning to distinguish between cognitive dissonance (being triggered) and righteous anger, between the programming of societal conditioning versus higher minded consciousness, between good and evil.
So often we think we’re doing the right thing…. the interwebs are always discussing which side is better, never stopping to zoom out to see there is more beyond the illusion of choices presented.
As highlighted in the following video, “you simply need a conscience to be free,” to own thyself….but how does one come to that realization and shift their way of thinking?
Maybe the bells hold a clue:
What did the bells say?
What did the bells toll?
What did the bell signal?
What did the bell know?
Bells have significance in our lives in a myriad of auspicious ways:
- Nostalgia in times of ringing for dinner, a symbol to come home, come “inside,” a time for gathering and abundant connection over nourishment
- Breaking up stuck energy, removing negative energy and inviting in Divine energy (a dispelling or summoning)
- A call to worship, a “calling” (time set aside to denote being out of time, Greeks call this Kairos)…this doesn’t necessarily mean in a church or temple, as many use a singing bowl or bell of some kind to open sacred space for prayer, meditation, in private or spiritual gatherings, as an element of ritual.
- A bell is an alarm, a call to the ether, to the Divine, to God to aid us, to assist us on this journey where the balance has teetered into extremes or out of kilter.
- A strike of time, remembrance, call to mourn, a warning call, a call to victory.
But there’s a great difference, and distance, in being summoned by a bell, hearing the frequency of a bell, and ringing it yourself.
The curved body of the bell represents the feminine (container, receiver).
The handle of the bell represents the masculine (action, doer).
The clapper inside the bell represents the harmonic kinetic force, the giving and receiving coming together in an ecstatic union.
I’m sure there are many interpretations of its symbolic nature and ancient past, but I find myself curious about this topic as I’ve noticed an excess of bells appearing at antique stores and vintage shops of late…maybe I’m just noticing what has always been there, or maybe bells are coming back into our consciousness for a reason.
Bells purify the environment as the sound is carried through the atmosphere, some say it causes disruptive creatures to scurry away…I can vouch for this working on coyotes. 😊
Like the absence of art and beauty in our modern-day architecture, art, vehicles, everyday objects….so too, the absence of bells seems to be an indicator of beauty, boldness, individuality, and freedom fading.
To me bells represent a sort of enchantment, an invitation to come together in some capacity, to commune…be with community …AND…they represent a fiery desire to shout beyond the tone and projection that our voices alone can carry.
They hold ritual and restraint in the same hand as freedom and mystery…maybe, as written in the poem by Longfellow, they are a an encouragement towards peace and understanding.
When freedom rings, it’s a sound that reverberates in our soul. Its lack of presence is why there is so much division because we’ve forgotten how to hear it, to feel it, to notice the echo of the carrier wave of freedom calling for us to claim it once again. You can’t vote for freedom. You can’t sit on your hands in wishful thinking…it, like love, requires action, it requires a sense of self and awareness that no other man or woman has ownership of you or knows what is best for you - -- not through immoral man-made laws, not through attention, not through circumstances or mistakes.
The bell is a forgotten symbol, yet one that lives in the background of our minds subtly still showing up in unique ways.
I found this bell (image below) at a consignment shop. I couldn’t resist picking it up and coming home to ring it.
The next time something STRIKES A CHORD or RINGS A BELL, ask yourself:
- What am I feeling?
- What am I being asked to remember?
- What is the message being carried in my bones, in the vessel we call home?
Maybe one way we can break up the dissonance and chaos that has been cast upon generations within our realm is to ring the bells again, let liberty be found in the sound..
Find a bell
ring it loud
let it shout
share it ‘round
far and wide
Let freedom ring
Let the bell toll
Let truth sing
its frequency rolls
as a declaration
to govern thyself
to live heartfelt
reclaim your power
in this dire hour
upon the land
take a stand
for sovereignty
because you can.
(in all fairness it was difficult to ring the bell with the intensity I desired while trying to hold the camera at the same time but you can still hear it…and feel it…) :)
There’s a lot of interesting history about what could have happened to the bells…stories of bell graveyards, repurposed into weapons, a censoring… silencing….a lot of speculation, hidden history, interesting theories and buried wisdom…I too, wonder, what happened to the bells?
What I know or certain is that NO ONE BUT YOU can ring the Freedom Bell:
- You can’t vote it into being
- You can’t hope it into reality
- You can’t manifest it by meditating
- You can’t make it appear by positive thinking
You must claim it by:
- Recognizing others have no right to rule you, nor you them
- Taking actions towards restoring our prana, your sovereignty by revoking participation in things that support slavery, violence, manipulation and theft…like voting, like expecting someone else to do something while you do nothing, like making little choices every day that invite in more self-ownership, self-sufficiency and self-responsibility.
When we reignite the importance of these universal symbols in our lives we remember the vigor with which to identify them and their role in the collective, for freedom doesn’t just come in the clanking of a bell, it’s:
- Gaining knowledge to learn to live in honor, with inner peace and actions abiding in natural law and the non-aggression principle
- It’s the feeling of the wind blowing through us as if the Divine’s fingers are running through our hair reminding us to seize the moment
- It’s the understanding that with freedom there is responsibility, discipline and balance…not just a free for all by a loss of control, but in something much greater
- It’s pulling back into our vessel all the moments we gave our power away or that were stolen….a reclamation and integration of the seen and unseen worlds reuniting
Ring them Bells…not just for the freedom of your own being, but for the breaking through the illusion and saying No More….Ring them bells…not just in celebration of your own liberation but as an invitation, a shout out to the whole realm that you too can break free from the hazy monsoon of things that don’t matter, yet is all the chatter….ring them bells to call back all your energy and liberty….ring them bells.
We know our history is often fabricated, twisted, lied about and thus, can’t fully be known, so when I find random videos on the interweb I don’t take them at face value without further inquiry. That being said, I don’t know who this is in the video below and am not making any claims to its validity, truth, or belief in the information stated, but it is thought provoking and I’m suddenly fascinated by bells…
What do you know about bells? When was the last time you rang a bell?
As Leonard Cohen sang, “Ring the bells that still can ring, Forget your perfect offering, There is a crack, a crack in everything, That's how the light gets in”
Something to ponder in closing: It seems to me that bells dispelled negative energies and emitted healing frequencies in the same way we know classical music can heal….why else would they want to destroy them?
With love and liberty…in the palm of our hands…here’s to the ringing of the freedom bell,
~ Angela
AAHHHHHH THIS WHOLE POST! This whole post was a fucking bell ringer holy SHIT dude. I am bookmarking it so I can read it again. I'd print it out if I had a printer. What the hell. Ok first off - THE BELL.
I do not know why, but for at LEAST the last year, I've had the urge to get a bell (same type you had in the video) and just jingle it right in someones face (or my own) to break up all that mess (clogged energy / bad thoughts) when they come around.
I've been smudged before entering sacred circles with a bell when other herbs weren't available. Sound has an incredible ability to disperse, cleanse and renew. I have a singing bowl now, I will make use with that.
Also I love how you noted - next time something "strikes a chord" or rings a bell - what am I being asked to REMEMBER? That right there. Ho-Ly-Shit. Thank you. And of course, what can we do each day to take more self-responsibility and NOT participate in the problem - this sounds like common sense but if it was, we wouldn't be in this situation as a collective. 🙏
This comment might not make any sense but I'm pretty amped up by this post and also I'm tired so there ya go haha. Bravo and well done!
