We live in a system where society has been conditioned to obey authority, to not question, to do as told and to not ruffle feathers. We always hear statements like “you should,” or “that’s just the way it is,” or “you have to.” We’re taught limiting beliefs from a young age when the mind is moldable — beliefs that our subconscious grabs onto until something happens later in life that brings awareness to this fact (usually through disease, dis-ease or trauma). It is normal to repeat these patterns, behaviors or lessons until the discomfort becomes such a burden that one begins seeking help or doing more inner work to find solutions as to why our outer and inner worlds aren’t in coherence.
What does the word AUTHORITY really mean?
AUTHOR: writer, creator, one who brings about
ITY: the qual-ity of being (be – IN)
Outer “authority,” be it friends, family, colleagues, government or other types of organizations do not know what is best for you — only you know. To obey authority is to allow someone else to define the quality of your being and author your life for you. It is possible to shatter this societal programming and limiting subconscious beliefs and step into higher levels of consciousness outside of this type of programming.
What if today you programmed you instead of letting someone or something else do so? What if today you took action steps towards authoring your own life? What if today you began telling a new story, creating a new way of being that aligns with your heart and soul?
The first thing to do is spend some time getting clear about who you are and what you really want for YOU. Pick up a pen and just start writing. Imagine if you were in the future reading the tales from the pages of your life: would it be an adventure, a drama, a comedy, a fairytale? What do you really want and are you honoring that tug from your soul or are you going along with the crowd, doing what’s perceived as what you should be doing?
Being the author of our own lives takes practice, intention and action. It requires an unwavering clarity, an awareness around lessons or hardships that come through to help us find it, and a curiosity to truly know ourselves. Every moment is an opportunity to be your own authority and stand up for yourself — from setting appropriate boundaries, to saying no to anything that takes your attention from your path.
Are you actively taking action daily to write the life story you want to create or are you letting it happen to you? It’s up to each of us to find our own purpose, passion, power and peace and you become the author when you take authority over your own life…make it truly yours…and remember, you can always write a new chapter.
You are the story you tell about how you fit into the world and society. No one can write your story for you.
